Audience: Newly hired home healthcare aides, primarily women in their 20s–30s with HHA certification. Learners had limited experience working with nonverbal patients.

Business Problem: Many caregivers struggled to recognize and respond to nonverbal cues, leading to frustration, miscommunication, and inconsistent care. This training was developed to close skill gaps and promote compassionate, patient-centered communication.

Solution: Designed and delivered a 60-minute interactive vILT session focused on building empathy, recognizing nonverbal signals, and using alternative communication tools effectively. The session prioritized dignity, respect, and trust-building with nonverbal patients.

Highlights: Interactive learning with chat-based discussions and games, realistic case studies, and reflection to promote real-world application.

Process: Led the instructional design from start to finish, beginning with a structured design document to align goals and learner needs. Developed a facilitator guide, participant handout, and interactive slide deck. The course was delivered virtually using Google Slides and assessed with a Google Form.
Applied Kirkpatrick’s Level 2 and Level 3 assessments by incorporating real-time reflections, scenario-based practice, and follow-up metrics including patient satisfaction and caregiver performance feedback.
